Dave's State of the Island: Barking Spider, Crouching Pygmy

We took a bit of a break after the last update was submitted (last Wednesday). We've been working non stop for weeks, including the weekends, and both of us came down with a bad cold. Today, we're trying to get back to work. Dave talks about the outcome of the move to 3.0 and the DLC sales for all that are interested in what shook out from that.

Obviously this latest update is about a spider, but we took this opportunity to refine the Pygmy battling system...so we went back to the T-Rex and started there and came up with a more game-like mechanic and then applied that to the spider...

"There are new achievements for combat based on the lowest number of spear throws it takes to knock one of these down and I have to say, it's pretty hard. Because if the difference in sizes, each monster needs a slightly different strategy to take it down. Some of the betas had a reaction that it was way too hard at first but there are techniques you can learn in order to get better at it over time. I think it will end up being a fun challenge and it brings more life into the T-Rex so those skins don't go to waste. "


He also discusses the new DLC, the Halloween Skin Pack which works a little differently than the T-Rex skin pack. He mentions the next technical hurdles that Pocket God will have to jump over, and then drops a hint about the next three updates!

  1. Yes u guys r addin a new location i bet its going to be an ice island and u can change the temperature also do DLC pack with a new feature im sure everybody would buy it then

  2. I bet the new island is an ice island. BTW for the skin pack, will it be just one skin for each object or 2 or more skins for each.

  5. i had an idea for an update you could release. you may want to consider adding unlockables into the game, such as getting 20,000 (at least) at Ooga jump gets you an "island" called heaven which is where the pigmies end up after they've crossed over to the other side. (adding heaven as an unlockable is not necessary. it could just be another island). another idea is having the island expand (get bigger) over time. when the size increases, you can scroll around it by sliding your finger left or right on the screen (in a place that you will designate, of course). then, when they expand the island, they start building huts, then advancing them, and eventually, they end up with houses and skyscrapers and they begin wearing suits and stuff. as soon as they're killed, and the buildings and other advancements destroyed, the island returns to normal size (only if everything the pygmies built is destroyed and there are no pygmies on the field). then, when you put new pygmies on the field, they "hang out" in the prehistoric era, and start building eventually. (you might want to consider being able to turn the "expand/evolve" function on and off in the settings tab).another good thing to add is to b able to increase the maximum amount of pygmies that can be on the screen at the same time (but only if the island has begun to grow in size). this will allow them to interact with each other better. my final suggestion (for now) is to allow players to manually change seasons (summer, winter, fall, spring). they should be able to make coats during the winter (if they have begun to evolve), huddle together if they haven evolved, fall in love in the spring (walk into a hut and come out with a baby if they are evolving), or just kiss or something if they aren't. they should be able to grow and harvest their own food in the summer (and be able to pick the coconut off the tree by themselves when they want to). they could have different dances for every season and weather change. and about weather changes: you can add rain, snow, hail (when it is hailing (or whatever it's called), a player should be able to draw the path of a huge ice ball to the pygmy (like a path drawn with lightning) and kill him. when it is raining, the player should be able to choose how hard it rains with a downward or upward swipe of his finger (up for lighter rain, down for heavier rain).

    p.s. you should release more than 1 update at a time, or add stuff to new updates because the game gets boring after 5 min. with a new update. if you waited like 2 weeks and released 3 new updates and a patch or modification to an older update at the same time, that would be amazing, and people would download this game more.
